”’Georgia”’ is a southeastern state of the United States. Georgia is the fourth state that signed the Constitution of the United States in 1788.

It is located on the Atlantic coast between South Carolina and Florida. The territory is separated from the Alabama River Chattahuchi in the west. The border with South Carolina passes along another big river Savannah.

The southern part of the territory of Georgia is wooded and swampy. The agriculture is highly developed in Georgia. Once the state’s primary product was cotton. Now farmers grow soybeans and peaches. History

Indian culture existed in Georgia before the Spanish colonization and disappeared in 1560. In the second half of the 16th century, the Spaniards colonized the territory. At the end of the 17th century, the British began to claim the region and established their control there. The founder of Georgia was the English General James Oglethorpe. In 1742 he received a royal charter on the foundation of a new colony. The colony was named after the English King George II. In 1742 the Spaniards invaded Georgia but were defeated.

During the American Revolutionary War, Georgia was among the first 13 territories which united in 1776 and signed the Declaration.
In 1788 Georgia became the fourth state signed the USA Constitution.
During the Civil War Georgia became a part of the Confederation of the southern states of America. Its territory became a field of fierce battles.
The defeat in the war caused the weakening of Georgia.

The war put an end to slavery but failed to destroy racial discrimination. Racism in Georgia existed until the sixties of the XX century.
In 1961, black residents of Albany began a campaign of the desegregation of public spaces.
Racial segregation in the United States was abolished in 1964.
Georgia gained worldwide fame thanks to the Gone With the Wind novel. During the Civil War events of the novel took place in this state.

History

The islands were first inhabited by Polynesians in the VI — III centuries BC.
In the 16th century, Spanish navigators visited Hawaii, but officially islands were opened by an expedition of English captain James Cook, who called them the Sandwich Islands (1778). Europeans found several state formations in Hawaii, which in the early 19th century became a kingdom. At the end of the century, interest in sugarcane production increased. This led the United States to a more active economic and political impact on the affairs of the archipelago. The native population slowly died out because of difficult economic conditions: by the end of the century, about 30 thousand people survived from the 300 thousand Polynesian population.

In 1894, the Republic of Hawaii was formed.  It was entirely dependent on the United States. Its president was S. Dole. In 1898, at the height of the Spanish-American War, the United States annexed Hawaii and in 1900 gave them the status of “territory”.

In 1908, the port of Pearl Harbor, which since the end of the XIX century played the role of an international port, became the base of the US Navy. The attack of Japanese aviation on this base on December 7, 1941, led the United States to enter World War II. August 21, 1959, Hawaii received the status of the state (the last, the 50th state in a row).

”’Idaho”’ is the fourteenth largest state in the USA. It is located in the north-west of the country, bordered by the states of Washington and Oregon in the west, Nevada, and Utah in the south, Montana and Wyoming in the east. History

The territory of Idaho was settled 14 more thousand years ago. By the 18th century, there were six Indians tribes, including Nez Perce in the north and the Shoshones in the south. In 1805-1806 this territory was explored by the Lewis and Clark expedition. Beaver hunters established the first settlements. For a long time, Idaho was a typical transit zone, through which crowds of settlers moved to the Pacific Ocean. Their adventurous life has become an inspiration for countless westerns. Local Indian tribes did not prevent the whites from moving to the west.

The problems began in 1860 when gold deposits were discovered in Idaho. Gold-diggers poured in here, who violently started to expel the Indians from their lands. In 1877-1879 there were bloody battles between white Americans and the Indians of the Nez Perce tribe in Idaho. Nez Perce tribe was finally forced to leave its lands.
In Idaho, there is only one highway that connects the northern part of the state to the south. This is one of the most extensive areas of the United States with old nature, which creates a great tourist potential. There are many winter resorts, the most famous of which is the Sun Valley.

Since the end of the XIX century, Illinois became one of the wealthiest and most developed states of the USA.

Even the large-scale disaster that occurred in Chicago in 1871, when most of the buildings died in a fire, promoted the introduction of new technologies. The burnt down city was rebuilt with all possible innovations. In 1885, a unique style of urban development was born here: the skyscrapers of business districts began to grow.

History

Even before the arrival of the Europeans, the territory of Indiana was settled by tribes of Indians from 8 thousand BC. The name appeared in the 1760s and meant “the land of the Indians,” and from 1800 it began to be used officially.

The French, appeared there in 1679, did not even suspect about all the natural riches of Indiana. They found the local Indian tribes in a time of hostility.  The Iroquois tribes combined with the British that arrived on the territory. Getting guns from them, Iroquois used them against other tribes, which they drove, assimilated or made tributaries.
The French were supported by representatives of some other tribes, and gradually the Indian wars were increasingly acquiring the character of confrontation between France and Britain.
The French founded the first permanent European settlement in Indiana.
By 1725, the lands of current Indiana were incorporated into the colony of New France. At the same time, missionaries carried on their activities trying to convert the Indians to Christianity and maintain an alliance with them. Towards the end of the French and Indian War vast territories came under the control of the British.
The Indians won the right on reservations, and the British continued the colonization.

The Indiana Territory was established in 1800 and its future 9th President, William Henry Harrison, became its governor. And in 1816, the 19th state of Indiana appeared in the alliance of American states. Indiana played a significant role in the Civil War between the capitalist North and the slave-owning South. This was the first western state that spoke on the side of the northerners.
The victory continued the industrial growth of the state, and by the beginning of the XX century, Indiana declared itself as the center of the automotive industry.

The crisis began during the Great Depression, from which the military and food orders for the front of the Second World War helped. The next industrial turmoil came in the 1970s, after which much in the structure of the economy had to be changed due to the closure of many enterprises and high unemployment.

History

Indians came to this land 13 thousand years ago. Before the arrival of Europeans, conflicts often were between the Indians.
The warlike Iowa tribe did not let go of the conflicts that arose between England and France, and then between the USA and England.
Frenchman Jacques Market became the first famous European in Iowa. In 1673, he discovered several Indian villages on the banks of the Mississippi. The territory of Iowa was declared a French possession and remained so until the defeat in 1763 in the French-Indian War, after which it was controled by Spain. Spain could not control the vast lands, and therefore it granted trade licenses to French and English traders who bought lead and fur from the Indians.

In 1800, Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) established Louisiana’s control of France. However, in 1803, the emperor sells Louisiana to the United States. Its territory included Iowa. The United States began to settle the eastern side of the Mississippi River and push back the Indians to the west.
In 1824, the Ioway tribe lost all their lands in Missouri, and in 1836 it was determined to be a reservation in northeastern Kansas.

During the American Civil War (1861-65) the state supported the North, it supplied large quantities of food for the army, and about 116 thousand men were called up for military service.
In 1890, the reservation in Kansas was divided and transferred to the ownership of the Indians. The state, which thus lost the indigenous people, after the war makes a rapid breakthrough in its development. At the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century, railways were laid on these lands, and the population was growing. Agriculture and farming was the basis of economic growth of the state. By the end of the XIX century, the state became one of the central granaries of the United States.
The Great Depression (1929–32) and the Second World War (1939–1945) accelerated the transition from a small to a broader economy and launched the process of urbanization.

History

The Spanish conquistador Francisco Vazquez de Coronado first visited lands of Kansas. From the 18th century, the French became interested in these areas, although the Europeans considered the territory of the Great Plains to be uninhabitable until 1820.
The indigenous people were the Indians of the Sioux group, one of the most militant representatives of the prairies tribes. Despite the militancy, they were ousted from their territories and settled on the reservation.

In the 1820s, missionaries and pioneers appeared and organized farms there. California’s gold deposits made a stream of gold miners through Kansas. The settlers began to come after them. They began to cultivate the land and needed labors. The longstanding struggle of supporters and opponents of slavery in Kansas started to with this problem. In 1862, the government issued an Act that allowed to take ownership of land in uninhabited territories. The era of the Wild West began.

From the late 1860s, the state began to lead the railway to the west. It played a fatal role in the life of the Indians. To undermine their lifestyles? the authorities paid well to hunters for killing bison, which served as the primary food for the indigenous population.
In the last decades of the XIX century, immigration to Kansas continued. By the beginning of the 20th century, Kansas became one of the leading USA agricultural states. The Great Depression for Kansas was aggravated by severe droughts and dust storms, due to which many residents of the state were forced to leave their homes.
During the Second World War, Kansas became one of the largest aircraft manufacturing centers in the United States of America.

History

Native Americans settled the territory of the future lands of Kentucky 3-4 thousand years ago. They settled mainly along the rivers and in the areas of buffalo hunting. History

There was no European foot on the lands of Louisiana until the 16th century. In the 1528-1542 the first Spanish expedition discovered the lands of the state, and later the area attracted the attention of the French. In 1607 the British tried to create a colony. However, the attempt was unsuccessful, and the settlement remained only a year.

In 1664 the province of Maine became part of the region of New York. In 1692, Maine became part of the area of Massachusetts Bay, received the name “Yorkshire.”
With the end of the French-Indian War in 1763, England established control over the territory.
During the American Revolutionary War, the population of Maine actively supported the American revolution.
In 1779, the Americans attempted to attack the British fortifications at the mouth of the Penobscot River. The operation ended in failure.
After the United States gained independence, Maine remained part of Massachusetts. This situation caused discontent and desire for autonomy among the residents of Maine.
Maine was severely damaged during World War I, more than any other region of New England, much of its territory was invaded by the British, many cities were looted and destroyed.
March 15, 1820, Maine became the twenty-third state of the United States. Portland was the first capital of Maine, but in 1832 the state government moved to Augusta.

In the first half of the nineteenth century, the economy of Maine was rapidly developing.
Residents of Maine were firm opponents of slavery and took an active part in the Civil War in the United States.
In the middle of the XIX century, a lot of immigrants from Ireland arrived in Maine.
The second rise of the economy brought World War II.

Around 1,330,000 people live in Maine. The average population density in the state is about 43.0/sq mi  (16.6/km2).

The largest cities of Maine are Portland (over 65,000 inhabitants), Lewiston (over 40,000 inhabitants), Bangor (over 35,000 residents), and South Portland (about 25,000 inhabitants).
