”’Massachusetts”’, officially Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is a state located in the east of the United States, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Massachusetts is bordered by the states of New Hampshire and Vermont in the north, New York in the west, Connecticut and Rhode Island in the south, the Atlantic Ocean in the east.
The state received its name from the tribe of Indians who lived in the territory of the future state. The word “Massachusetts” is translated as “people living at a big hill.”

History
The tribes of Massachusetts, Wampanoag, and Pennakuk lived on the territory of the state. In 1620, the legendary ship “Mayflower” moored to the shores of the future state. A large group of Puritans who had fled from England for religious reasons sailed on board. They became the founders of the first English colony in North America.
In 1630, a colony of the Massachusetts Bay appeared on the map, in the same year the city of Boston was founded. Migrants worked tirelessly. In 1636 Harvard University, the oldest institution of higher education in the United States, appeared in Cambridge, near Boston.
The life of former British people began to change in the better way, which could not be said about the indigenous people of these places. During the seventeenth century, the missionaries were active in preaching Christianity, and many Indians accepted it.
Indians who disagree with the new way of life died in clashes with the British or were forced out of their ancestral territories.
In Massachusetts, the War of Independence of the USA began in the years 1775-1783. In 1773, residents of Boston raised a rebellion that remained in history as “Boston Tea Party.”
After eight years of battle, Britain was forced to accept the independence of the future United States. Massachusetts was the sixth state to ratify the USA Constitution.
In the XIX century, the state broke into the leaders of industrialization. In the state, the work of textile manufactories, shoe shops and all sorts of factories was in full swing. In the Civil War (1861-1865), Massachusetts took the side of the opponents of slavery, and at that time became one of the first states to admit African Americans.
In 1929-1939 the Great Economic Depression hit the country. Only by the middle of the century, the state was able to reborn its economic. Then the industrialists were replaced by entrepreneurs who were guided by new technologies.
